How far back can you research?
This is impossible to answer definitively for individual clients as it is very much determined on several factors:
• have your ancestors records survived?
• have your ancestors left a paper trail that has
been preserved?
• have your ancestors been entirely truthful in regard to the records?
• did the recorder take down the material accurately?
• are the names used by your ancestors extremely common making it difficult to sort out who is who?
Usually it is not too difficult to work back in time to when your ancestors arrived
in a new country (if they emigrated) and/or the start of civil
registration. However, wars and other matters intervene and
the particular information you need may just be lost! We may
come across records that are not accurate. Working back in
the era before civil registration may prove rather more difficult.
